Tondu Infrastructure Works &

Waste Transfer Station

Construction of critical infrastructure, including a new Waste Transfer Station by Llanmoor Homes

This project involved the construction of critical infrastructure, including a new Waste Transfer Station, to facilitate future development of the site by Llanmoor Homes.

A key component of the works was the reconfiguration of the local road network in Tondu. This included the creation of a new site entrance, the installation of a traffic-controlled junction, and the provision of new access roads and traffic signal systems. To complete the interchange, significant utility diversions and temporary traffic diversions were required.

Robust and strategic traffic management was central to the successful delivery of the scheme. Given the location and the continual flow of heavy traffic through the area, careful planning and programming were essential to maintain safety and minimise disruption to road users throughout the works.

The scope of the construction included over 400 metres of new carriageway, 900 metres of footpaths and cycleways, four new traffic islands, and extensive kerbing, surfacing, and road marking operations. The scheme also involved the removal of outdated traffic signals, the installation of modern replacements, and the addition of automated barriers for both pedestrians and vehicles.

Initial works included full site clearance and remediation of contaminated areas, including the treatment and removal of Japanese Knotweed. Ecological mitigation measures were implemented as part of the environmental management strategy. Earthworks profiling was undertaken across the site in preparation for future residential and commercial development.
