Thames Hospice is a local charity providing expert care for people living with life-limiting illnesses. They offer a wide range of therapies to support patients’ physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs. All services are free, thanks to fundraisers and donors.

Set in more than eight-acres, with stunning views across landscaped gardens and Bray Lake, the New Thames Hospice has; 28 en-suite inpatient bedrooms. The Day-Centre offers a range of therapeutic services and activities. A new Education Centre dedicated to promoting palliative care excellence to hospice staff also offers education to others in the local community.

The hospice has a reinforced multi-storey exposed concrete frame, including a complex concrete structure in the ‘rotunda’, which is the focal point for the building forming the main entrance.

Thermal modelling analysis was undertaken to develop a natural ventilation and passively cooled solution. A zero-operation carbon solution was developed for the majority of the building and implemented through suitable construction materials (thermal mass) and strategically located operable windows and roof lights. The garden is a place of retreat and meditation with allusions to the transience of the life (with expressions of seasonality) that emphasise health-giving properties of the natural world. Enhancing nature and maximising biodiversity with a holistic approach between the building and the landscape.

Thames Hospice’s new state-of-the-art facility officially opened by Her Majesty The Queen accompanied by HRH The Princess Royal.

Our world-class, state-of-the-art facility was developed with the needs of our patients at the very heart. This vision was shared by Andrew Scott who went above and beyond to complete the build in the most challenging of times last year. This exceptional building will enable us to continue to provide urgent palliative and end-of-life care to our growing community now and generations to come. Andrew Scott should be incredibly proud of their achievement.
