Design and construction of a new rock salt storage facility at Baglan Energy Park

Andrew Scott Ltd was appointed to design and construct a new rock salt storage facility at Baglan Energy Park.
The project comprised the construction of a 45m x 30m x 7m portal frame building with a storage capacity of 7,500 tonnes of rock salt. The scope of works included full building cladding, alterations to site access, construction of an external storage yard, footpaths, installation of external services, drainage systems, and CCTV infrastructure.
Adopting a collaborative ‘whole team’ approach, Andrew Scott Ltd led the project as principal contractor, working closely with the client and design partners. This early contractor involvement facilitated design optimisation, resulting in both cost savings and environmental efficiencies, particularly in the groundworks phase.
Through intelligent design refinement and value engineering, the team achieved significant improvements in programme delivery, budget control, and overall performance, without compromising on environmental standards or construction quality.
