Construction of new transport interchanges and associated infrastructure at two operational railway stations

This contract involved the construction of new transport interchanges and associated infrastructure at two operational railway stations. The scope of works included earthworks, retaining structures, access roads and footpaths, installation of road signage, diversion and installation of new utilities, foul and surface water drainage, fencing, surfacing, and comprehensive landscaping.
A key feature of the project was the strong commitment to sustainable construction practices, particularly waste minimisation. The scheme successfully achieved a zero-waste-to-landfill outcome, with all excess and remediated materials reused on site. Innovative design allowed these materials to be incorporated into the project by increasing the height of retaining walls and expanding landscaped areas, eliminating the need for off-site disposal.
The works were delivered within a live transport environment, requiring careful planning to manage existing road traffic, rail users, and pedestrian movement. Phased construction ensured the programme was delivered within tight time constraints while maintaining safe and continuous access for all users.
Maintaining journey time reliability and road safety was a core commitment. A proactive approach was taken to minimise disruption and keep the travelling public informed throughout the project duration.
Early contractor involvement enabled the client to benefit from the most sustainable and cost-effective solutions. The use of advanced construction methods, including lean construction techniques, high-performance surfacing, and strategic traffic management systems, helped optimise efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and enhance long-term asset performance.
