Multi-Phase Expansion of a Live, Hygiene-Critical Food Production Facility

Andrew Scott Ltd successfully delivered the three-phase expansion of the highly automated Princes Foods Group production facility in Cardiff. The Design & Build contract was delivered within a live, hygiene-critical environment, requiring close collaboration with facility staff, the design team, and specialist equipment manufacturers to ensure zero disruption to ongoing operations.

This strategically important programme future-proofed the site’s operational capacity, supported innovation in product development, and aligned with Princes’ sustainability and environmental goals.

The scope of works included:

  • Phase 1 – Construction of a new 4,380m² chilled production facility and a 5,510m² ambient production area, enhancing the site’s capability to manufacture a wider range of food and mini fruit juice products

  • Phase 2 – Delivery of 2,100m² of new office accommodation, providing modern, fit-for-purpose administrative and support spaces

  • Phase 3 – Site-wide infrastructure and environmental works, supporting efficient logistics, improved energy performance, and compliance with environmental standards

All phases were meticulously planned and executed to allow the facility to remain fully operational throughout the construction programme. This was achieved through phased delivery, robust planning, and continuous engagement with Princes’ project management and operational teams.

The complex installation of specialist production and packaging equipment was coordinated seamlessly, made possible by transparent communication, adaptive site management, and a proactive approach to health, safety, and hygiene protocols.

The successful completion of this project demonstrates Andrew Scott Ltd’s proven capability in delivering highly technical, phased construction programmes within live food production environments—on time, to specification, and without disruption to critical operations.

The Andrew Scott project team has been a critical partner in delivering each phase of this project and have demonstrated their dedicated commitment to the project success for the construction of a new warehousing, new production space and a new office block along with a new estate road.  The team have been great to work with and their professionalism and collaboration with the Princes Site team.
