For over 25 years, Andrew Scott Ltd has been a trusted Tier 1 Framework Contractor delivering civil and building projects in high-voltage environments across South and West Wales for National Grid. Our extensive experience encompasses the construction, modification, and refurbishment of substations, where health, safety and environmental protection are embedded at every stage of project delivery.Typical Projects Include:

  • Construction of New Substations: excavation and earthworks, new brickwork or steel-framed buildings, perimeter palisade security fencing, new transformer foundations, external HV equipment structure foundations, ducting and cable trough installation, full site drainage systems, earthing and access roads. 

  • Modification of Existing Substations: Including demolition of existing buildings, new switch houses, compound extensions, full reconfiguration of layouts requiring removal and replacement of foundations, new ducting and access routes, and LV power and lighting integration.

  • Alteration of Existing Buildings: Covering works such as internal wall removal, construction of cable trenches and new floor slabs, installation of steel supports, and modification of loadbearing structures.

  • Transformer Replacements in Operational Substations: Delivering transformer bund modification/replacement, cable chimney construction, selective demolition and complex temporary works within live environments.

  • Construction of New Circuit Bays in Live Substations: Encompassing demolition, new foundation construction for outdoor switchgear, erection of steel structures, grouting and cable management infrastructure.

We ensure that all works are governed by comprehensive, project and task-specific Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), developed in collaboration with our SHEQ team and reviewed prior to site mobilisation.
