Andrew Scott Ltd is delighted to have commenced works on the £14m Nelson Primary School project for Caerphilly County Borough Council

The project supports the continued development of Nelson Primary School, which currently operates across the former Llancaeach Junior and Llanfabon Infants sites. Through the expansion and refurbishment of the existing Llanfabon site, the scheme will enhance provision for pupils aged 3-11, creating capacity for 275 pupils alongside nursery provision.

The development includes a new childcare unit within the existing Llanfabon site, providing 24 childcare places on site.

As part of the project, Key Stage 2 pupils (aged 7-11) currently educated at the Llancaeach site will relocate to new classrooms within the extended Llanfabon site, enabling the school to operate from a single location.

The extension will be constructed using a combination of traditional and modern materials to create a vibrant and attractive learning environment for pupils and the wider community. The development will deliver a highly sustainable, 21st century learning environment, bringing together early years and primary provision on one site while supporting the long-term future of Nelson Primary School.

This project is being delivered through the Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme, a joint investment by Caerphilly County Borough Council and Welsh Government, which is transforming educational facilities across the Borough.

Working closely with Caerphilly County Borough Council, local schools and community stakeholders, the project will provide opportunities for apprenticeships, trainees, work placements and careers engagement activities, helping to inspire the next generation to consider careers in construction and the built environment.

Andrew Scott Ltd will also seek to maximise local employment and supply chain opportunities, while supporting community initiatives and educational engagement programmes to ensure the project delivers meaningful benefits for local people alongside the new school facilities.
