Museum of Land Speed
Pendine: The historic mecca for world breaking speed attempts
A direct award project to complete The Pendine Tourism Attractor Project, which involves the development of high-quality, year-round visitor destination facilities that aim to maximise Pendine’s heritage and drive forward the resorts future economic regeneration.
At the heart of the project are three interconnected elements that together form a seamless and compelling visitor experience.
The Sands of Speed Museum and Visitor Centre is a striking new attraction celebrating Pendine’s motorsport legacy. Inside, visitors will find a mix of permanent and rotating exhibitions that showcase classic motorcars and historic land speed memorabilia. The centre will also feature a collection store, a welcoming retail area and entrance lobby, and a first-floor event space for functions and gatherings. Interactive zones will be woven throughout the building, bringing the thrill of Pendine’s history to life for all ages.
The Eco Hostel offers modern, environmentally conscious accommodation close to the beach and a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Designed to reduce environmental impact while delivering comfort and style, the hostel will provide around 42 bed spaces. It includes eight four-bed units and five two-bed en-suite rooms, with accessible accommodation available on the ground floor. The site also includes landscaped dune gardens for guests to enjoy, encouraging a strong connection with the natural surroundings.
The External Enhancements and Event Facilities component will create a vibrant outdoor space to support tourism and host large-scale events. A new car park will provide a minimum of 82 spaces, while the addition of a dedicated outdoor events area and a purpose-built exhibition esplanade will offer flexible, high-quality platforms for festivals, exhibitions, and community celebrations throughout the year.
Together, these three complementary projects form a cohesive and exciting destination that celebrates Pendine’s storied past while accelerating its future as a must-visit location for culture, adventure, and innovation.
