Award Winning Remediation and Redevelopment Project for Future Growth

Constructing Excellence Wales – Sustainability Award
This transformative project involved the remediation and redevelopment of the former Port Talbot Steel and Chemical Works site, paving the way for the regeneration of the town’s former docks quarter and supporting future economic development.
Delivered as part of a strategic initiative to unlock employment land, the works focused on making the site viable for future commercial use. Key elements of the scheme included:
Comprehensive remediation of contaminated land
Removal of redundant voids, basements, and foundations
Construction of a new 240-metre highway to improve access
Upgrading works to existing highway infrastructure
Flood mitigation measures, including the installation of enhanced drainage systems
Provision of additional car parking and associated external works
Ecological enhancement works to improve biodiversity and environmental value
The purpose of the project was to enable future development and attract business investment by creating a clean, accessible, and strategically located employment site. The regeneration of the Harbourside area will serve as a catalyst for wider redevelopment, improving the overall attractiveness of the town and supporting the creation of a vibrant new business hub in Port Talbot.

Andrew Scott Ltd provided invaluable support to ensure that the scheme was granted planning permission and obtained funding. The team’s core competencies and extensive experience in both Building and Civil Engineering disciplines were fundamental in ensuring that best value was obtained.
