Crown Buildings
Phased Redevelopment
Repurposing the Former Crown Packaging (Metal Box) Factory — One of Neath’s Most Iconic Buildings

As part of the Welsh Government’s Neath Valleys Strategic Hub initiative, the transformation of the former Crown Packaging (Metal Box) factory plays a key role in a wider regional development plan.
This historic 1920s building has been thoughtfully repurposed and refurbished to create six independent office spaces with shared communal facilities. The revitalised offices feature high-specification, pod-style interiors, "ultra-fast" broadband connectivity, modern shower facilities, and a distinctive entrance lobby, offering a contemporary and functional working environment.
The scope of works included:
Removal of asbestos and associated remediation
Structural concrete repairs and brickwork restoration
Refurbishment and alterations to the existing three-storey office block
Installation of a new central access core incorporating a lift, WCs, and kitchen facilities
Comprehensive mechanical and electrical upgrades
Replacement of the external fire escape and upgrades to the existing stair balustrades
Roof refurbishment, window replacement, and renewal
Fire compartmentation improvements
Enhancements to disabled access
Thermal upgrades, acoustic compliance measures, and future-proofing to meet EPC requirements
Externally, significant improvements were made, including the refurbishment and upgrade of the existing pumping station, treatment works, and surface water outfall. Further enhancements included improved access to the main entrances, upgrades to existing street lighting, and resurfacing and relining of the car park.
This ambitious project not only preserves an important part of Neath’s industrial heritage but also breathes new life into a landmark building, supporting the economic growth and regeneration of the region
