Celtic Manor Bridge
Award Winning Structure for a Global Sporting Event

LABC Award for Large Commercial and Infrastructure Project
Constructed as a key feature of the prestigious 2010 Ryder Cup Championship course at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, this purpose-built footbridge stands as an iconic addition to the landscape and infrastructure of the event.
Designed as a rod-stayed structure, the bridge features a main span of 95 metres and two 15-metre end spans, with a total structure weight of 160 tonnes. Its striking form not only complements the high-profile setting but also delivers the functionality required for a world-class tournament.
The bridge deck supports a 4.2-metre-wide carriageway, accommodating both pedestrian traffic and lightweight maintenance vehicles, ensuring safe and efficient access across the river throughout the event and beyond.
Environmental sensitivity was a key consideration during construction. A 6-metre environmental exclusion zone was strictly maintained along each riverbank, demonstrating a commitment to protecting the surrounding natural habitat.
The Ryder Cup footbridge exemplifies the successful integration of engineering excellence, aesthetic design, and environmental stewardship, leaving a lasting legacy at one of golf’s most celebrated international venues.

We are proud to open this wonderful new bridge as the final major piece of construction for this year’s Ryder Cup. We have invested a lot of time and resources in creating not only the Twenty Ten Course, the first golf course in history to be purpose built for staging the Ryder Cup, but also the surrounding infrastructure.
