Cardiff and Vale Breast Centre,

University Hospital Llandough

Purpose-built facility located at University Hospital Llandough

The Cardiff and Vale Breast Centre is a purpose-built facility located at University Hospital Llandough. Described as a world-class centre and the only unit of its kind in southeast Wales, it consolidates all breast services diagnostics, outpatient care, and surgery under one roof.

Developed over four years of planning and completed in just one year, the centre was designed to streamline the patient pathway, allowing individuals to receive consultations, mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies, and same-day results, eliminating the need for multiple hospital visits.

The facility treats nearly 4,000 patients annually and includes a comprehensive outpatient suite with ten examination rooms, three mammography rooms, two ultrasound rooms, a treatment room, counselling suites, and a prosthesis fitting area. A dedicated ward Anwen Ward provides 14 inpatient beds, while staff offices and a multi-disciplinary team meeting room occupy the upper floor.

The centre is used daily for clinics, diagnostic procedures, counselling, and support services, and has significantly improved the quality, efficiency, and experience of breast care services in the region.

Andrew Scott Ltd’s staff and their performance on this contract exceeded the UHB’s expectations. The site management and operatives were first class and a credit to Andrew Scott Ltd. The contract was managed as a team effort from client, designers and contractor.
