Design and construction of new 3G Pitches

Carmarthenshire Council via, the SWWRCF has awarded Andrew Scott Ltd the design and construction of new 3G Pitches on existing Red-gra facilities at Glan Y Mor Comprehensive School.
Typical Construction Sequence – 3G Sports Pitch
Site Preparation & Surveys
Topographical and geotechnical surveys
Setting out the pitch perimeter
Clearance of vegetation, existing structures, or debris
Excavation & Earthworks
Strip topsoil and unsuitable subsoil
Cut and fill to achieve design levels and gradients
Installation of geotextile membranes (if required for stability)
Drainage Installation
Excavate and install lateral and perimeter drains
Lay perforated pipes in gravel-filled trenches
Connect to existing stormwater systems or soakaways
Place drainage layer (stone or open-textured tarmac)
Sub-Base Construction
Place and compact stone sub-base layers (Type 3 aggregate or engineered stone)
Laser-grade to required tolerances for levelness
Install edge restraints (kerbs, PCC edgings or concrete channels)
Base Layer Installation
Install shock pad (optional but often recommended)
Lay engineered base (e.g. porous asphalt or dynamic stone layer)
Synthetic Turf Installation
Roll out and align the synthetic carpet
Trim, seam, and glue turf rolls together using specialist adhesives
Install inlaid pitch markings (or cut and glue coloured lines)
Infill Application
Apply rubber crumb and sand infill in layers
Mechanically brush infill to evenly distribute and settle it into the turf
Repeat as required for proper coverage and performance
Perimeter Works
Install fencing (weldmesh or rebound panels)
Install goals, ball-stop netting, access gates
Complete external landscaping or hardstanding areas
Testing & Commissioning
Surface performance testing (shock absorption, ball rebound, traction)
Drainage performance checks
Final snagging and client handover
