INTEGRATED TRANSPORT HUB

The Transport Hub has space for up to six-buses, enabling bus transport to connect with strategic employment sites and education centres along Swansea Bay, Swansea City Centre, residential areas and the valley areas in the hinterland as well as the rail network.

The Works comprise the re-alignment of the A48 Heilbronn Way / Talbot Road main road through Port Talbot, providing a new proposed bus station, taxi rank and drop-off / pick-up bays, whilst providing a generally aesthetically pleasing pedestrian dominated concourse.

GROUND STABILISATION, FFORESTFACH RETAIL PARK

Following a landslip the project entailed the remediation and ground stabilisation of a 25m embankment within a live retail park and adjacent to the busy A380.

The project required; traffic & pedestrian management systems, the design & installation of major temporary works systems, installation of 600mmØ piles, permanent reinforced concrete pile capping beam and cast in-situ reinforced concrete gravity retaining wall.

Works included the provision of new foul and storm drains, road links, roundabouts, a balancing pond, installation of new road signs and road markings, and provision of a combined footway / cycle way around the business park.

As the result of a detailed land profile survey, all excavated material reused on site.

To minimise environmental risk, Japanese Knotweed was dealt with by engineering ground levels to form a disposal area lined with an impermeable barrier.

New transport infrastructure and a new Waste Transfer Station.

The works involved the; reconfiguration of the local road, 400-metres new access road, 900-metres footpaths & cycle paths, four traffic islands, automatic pedestrian & vehicle barriers and major diversion of utilities services.

Part of the site required remediation due to contamination and the controlled eradication of Japanese Knotweed.

RHOOSE & LLANTWIT MAJOR INTERCHANGES

The construction of transport interchanges adjacent to two railway stations.

Works consisted earthworks, retaining walls, road signs, access roads and footpaths, diversion of existing utilities and new utilities, foul and surface water drainage, fencing, surfacing and landscaping.

All excess and remediated material was reused by increasing the height of retaining walls and introducing landscaped areas.

The project required a phased Traffic Management Plan.

The design and construct of 600m long extension to the River Taw defence wall, all works being subject to tidal conditions and strict environmental constraints.
