Constructed on the site of the original Betws Primary School the project consists of two one
form entry schools split into an English-medium (394 pupils) and a Welsh-medium (379
pupils) school.

The new school will create modern learning space, incorporating: classrooms, receptions class rooms, nursery classes, SEN rooms, clockrooms and WCs, community rooms, shared hall and kitchen, teacher offices and staff rooms.

Each building will have its own outdoor teaching space.

The English Medium School was awarded the LABC (Bridgend) Best Educational Award 2018.

DYFFRYN CLEDLYN VOLUNTARY CONTROLLED PRIMARY SCHOOL

The new school accommodates 120 primary pupils and 25 nursery places. It provides early years, infants and junior classrooms, specialist classrooms, a resource area, multi-purpose spaces and community area, a main hall and kitchen.

Outside facilities include; a sports pitch, a permeable tarmac multi games area, safety play areas for nursery pupils and an ecology area.

The construction of a new, 3,000m2, single storey English-medium primary school with associated external works and play areas.

The new school can cater for up to 210 pupils between the ages of three and 11.

Followed by the refurbishment of the existing primary school to provide Welsh-medium education

Two-stage design and build project delivering a new 250 place primary school and 40-place nursery using a standardised design layout, allowing for future adaption.

THE ALEX BUILDING

The new building houses the; School of Architectural Class, School of Industrial Design, Foundation Art and Design and the Institute of Sustainable Design.

The ‘iconic’ double-skin façade minimises heat gain, regulates glare and provides fresh air intake into the design studios, exhibition spaces. It offers acoustic protection from the urban environment.

A sedum roof covers the new extension and PV arrays are installed on the pitched roof of the original building.

Low carbon technologies include; low energy led lighting, grey water harvesting and water savings sanitary ware

CROESERW COMMUNITY AND TRAINING CENTRE

Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council

BREEAM: Excellent

Located adjacent to the local primary school, the scheme comprised the design and build of a new state of the art centre providing flexible accommodation for community enterprises and small start-up businesses.

The centre also includes a wide range of community facilities such as a dedicated youth and IT training area and two fully equipped workshops for construction skills and hair & beauty training courses.

As part of the contract we also provided a new multi-use games area (MUGA) for the primary school.

LIFELONG LEARNING CENTRE

The Centre provides Creative and Performing Arts students with; recording and performing studios, music technology workshops, an auditorium, refectory and office spaces.

The Centre also hosts community space and a cafe.

During the construction process, students attending the Painting & Decorating and Carpentry & Joinery courses, benefited from practical on-site work experience.
